From manual checks to a lightweight regression set
Use examples, rubrics, and failure cases as a daily reliability habit.
A lightweight regression set needs at least three case types
- Normal cases: the system should pass cleanly
- Boundary cases: missing fields, long inputs, partial context
- Failure cases: cases that test whether the system guesses or acts unsafely
What a rubric should look like
Not “looks good,” but checks such as:
- Were key facts preserved?
- Were required fields present?
- Did the system trigger the wrong action?
- Did risky output get routed to human review?
Where to start
Collect 5 to 10 common inputs first. Build your first regression set from real repeats, then expand.
